By George!

Finally, finally, FINALLY the George IV peach tree has blossomed! Before I get too excited about it we woke up this morning to frost. I haven’t been in the orchard yet today as I’m waiting for it to warm up outside. We’ve had some crazy fluctuations in weather. Last week we enjoyed high 70-mid 80 degree weather, and then it snowed overnight. Then it melted later that day, now we’re dealing with temps in the high 40s/low 50s during the day.

It doesn’t look like the hardware store peach tree made it through the winter. It has a sprout coming from the bottom, but I don’t have much hope for that one. I’ll keep an eye on it for now.

I’ve gone back to work at a hospital roughly an hour from home. It’s small and I’m in the smallest critical care unit I’ve ever worked in. I’m getting back into the swing of it after having had 3 months off.

I’ve had a situation with my health, but I’m firmly in the belief that I’m in good hands and will have things under control in no time.

I’m far behind on seed starting. I have squashes started, the melons have succumbed to my setting their heat pad too high over the course of a few days. Today’s chores include getting a raised bed set up for the 12 asparagus crowns sitting on the front porch, and getting peas started. We’re still 5 weeks before our last frost date so I still have time to get tomatoes going.

It’s also time to take a ride down the road and see if my egg lady’s chickens are laying now that the dregs of winter are. behind us.
