I live near New York but the opposite end of the state from NYC. We are lucky enough to have a huge repository of treasures nearby in the form of the Salamanca Antiques Mall in Salamanca, NY. These fine people also have establishments in the Rochester area, as well as in Farmington, NY (these are all in the western half of the state). If you’re nearby, I highly recommend that you go. Prices vary depending on vendor, but in my humble opinion, I have found most items to be reasonably priced.
I like to walk around for a while and take photos of things that speak to me. If I can’t get them out of my head, I usually go back and purchase one of my finds. I call this, “pre-shopping”. Sometimes I need more time to research a piece, sometimes I just do it to keep myself from emptying my wallet.
I’m a sucker for transferware, silverware, linens (especially napkins), kitchen copper, community cookbooks, and art. I was really hoping to find a bergere chair but ended up finding other furniture that made me happy. I think I’m currently fixated on everything at the moment, but these really wanted to come home with me.
Here’s what I found:
