I’ve been running through a seemingly endless cycle of working three 12-hour plus days in a row and cleaning/resting/sleeping the remainder of my week. It’s an hour commute each way to the hospital I’m currently at, and I tend to arrive to work a half hour before my shift, report can take anywhere between 15-45 minutes depending on if I’m in the CCU or up on the medical/surgical unit (1-3 patients versus 3-6 patients to report on).
Elizabeth moved out to her own place, Kai graduated high school and is working all summer, and Emily is just living her best life.

We were quite effected by the smoke from the wildfires in Canada last week. The air smelled of bonfires and of course Liz and I picked the worst day of it all to try to take a hike.

We hadn’t been listening to the news at all and had no idea the air quality was so bad (or from what) and we were only able to make it about a mile in before we decided to turn around. It wasn’t a total loss, though. We were able to pick some stinging nettle, which I dried for tea.

I feel like the exhaustion from having Covid at the tail end of January until mid-March hasn’t left. Most days I have to take a nap, whether it’s a quick 30 minutes in my car when I get to work, or it’s in the middle of the day on my days off.
The good news is that I’ll be off for a couple of weeks in July. A few of those days we’ll spend in DC as Kai is off to orientation. Emily and I will hit a few museums, eat a lot of ramen, and hopefully just bask in the peace of the US Botanic Garden (which is one of my favorite places on earth). I just hope this exhaustion goes away before we head out.
I have so much to do here. G and I are discussing a possible move (yes, I’ll be digging up the orchard and bringing it with me). I want to live in a walkable place, but still have enough space for an orchard, vegetable garden, and flower garden. Somewhere where we can be thriving “senior” citizens. Somewhere that celebrates the melting pot that this country actually is. Some place where we don’t see Confederate flags on far too many houses. Some place where we have fewer people around who align with anti-everything. Somewhere with a hockey league for G. We have narrowed it down to a couple of states, but that’s all I’m saying about it until we find a place.
There’s going to be a slow down in recipe creation. I’m going to be focusing the next few months on renovating both of the bathrooms in the house and quite possibly updating the kitchen.
Oh, did I mention that the peonies are blooming?
